A depressed soldier goes AWOL and ends up at the 4077th in the company of Hawkeye and B.J. They discover that the soldier, Gillis, had just found out his wife was having an affair and acted impetuously. The next morning they take him to Sunday service to talk to Father Mulcahy. When the M.P.s come to arrest Gillis, Father Mulcahy extends him sanctuary. When Potter informs Gillis that the Command Chaplain has decreed that the sanctuary is to be denied in this situation, Gillis pulls a gun, only to be disarmed by a soft-spoken Father Mulcahy.
