Major Weems comes to the 4077th, and at first his concern for his wounded black soldiers seems genuine; on further examination it becomes apparent that the Major is in fact highly prejudiced, to the point of trying to eliminate blacks from his unit by transferring them or assigning them to the front lines. When Potter, Hawkeye and B.J. learn the truth they trick Weems into resigning his position with the aid of a black fellow officer named Rockingham, who impersonates a personnel officer. Rockingham is in truth a dentist and extracts the aching tooth that Charles has been dreading to have out.
